Often we are unable to identify the impact of our over busy lifestyles
Working long hours and then needing to fit all those basic household tasks like shopping and cleaning into your out of work hours stresses everyone in the home. Couple that with finding the house or car needs repairing and the stress builds even more. It feels like all one does is run around meeting deadlines and taking care of others.
Before long your thoughts are racing trying to work out where you need to be next and anxiety slips in and/or depression. The cycle starts to spin as your Self worth plummets, and before you know it, you may find yourself in that proverbial big, black hole.
Our wellbeing increases when we slow down
Evidence shows our wellbeing increases when we slow down, connect with nature by walking along a beach or in a rainforest, or go swimming.
A minimum of half-an-hour per day of moderate cardio activity will not only enhance your physical health, but research shows that it not only contributes to your mental health and wellbeing, but also helps reconnect you with resting, relaxing, and refreshing yourself.

Tip 8. Rest and Refresh
from the series 10 Tips to Stay Mentally Healthy
There is a lot of talk about work/life balance, but people sometimes don’t seem to understand why this is important until far too late.
People who work 10 -15 hours per day, take care of children and ageing parents, often seem to forget they need to take care of themselves too by having time to rest, relax and refresh themselves.
We work long hours on the job and then try to fit another 8 hour day of work into every 24 hours
It’s hard to relax after working a 10 – 15 hour day. Getting to the point of winding down, eating a meal and finally resting doesn’t happen by itself, and frequently sleep becomes disturbed when you finally fall into bed. When children get sick, or the elderly need attention, these added complications seem to be the final stressors.
Self care, relaxing and rest is so important
It’s fine to work hard, AND it is necessary to have time off to rest and give the mind downtime during sleep, then you have the energy to play with the children, to talk with and care for the elderly.
Listen to your body and your self-talk. What is it telling you? Is it time to work regular hours? Is it time to get a good 6 – 8 hours sleep each night, to have a day where you watch a movie, play with the children, enjoy being with your parents and keeping your mind healthy?
