Tips for Teens

 Rethink Your Role Model

Barbie's still the first role model many young girls are drawn to. But let's be honest. For most of us to look like Barbie, we'd have to be nearly 6 feet tall, shrink our waist size by 8 inches, move the excess inches up to our chests, and then pose in the "suck in the gut/high heel" position all the time. Come on! There's a better way to live our lives than pretending.

Select positive role models. Choose role models that help you feel good about who you are, rather than ones who make you feel bad. Find a role model who is strong, healthy -- and real!

Counselling for teens can be scary and quite daunting because of all the unknowns that teens worry about.   What is the counsellor going to be like? Is she going to think that I am stupid?  What if I cry? What will happen?  These are all very real fears and that is ok and we can talk about these issues and I can tell you what I think!

I will do my best to get to know you and for you to get to know me so that we can work together (through conversation) about what brought you to counselling.

During each session, I use many different counselling techniques.
Some include:

  • Person-centred Therapy
  • Strength based Therapy
  • Narrative Therapy
  • Transactional Analysis
  • Family Therapy
  • Solution focused Therapy
  • Mindfulness and Relaxation Therapy

Typical issues that may bring a person to therapy:

  • Self esteem issues
  • Stress
  • Anger
  • Anxiety and Depression
  • Self Harm
  • Sexuality concerns
  • Relationships issues with parents, siblings
  • Bulllying

Medicare Rebates

A significant Medicare rebate is available when you are referred by your GP under a Mental Health Treatment Plan or for Pregnancy Support Counselling.
